I just want to live my life on my terms and if I make mistakes they are my mistakes, not anyone else’s.

Anthony Gamble Adams worked for IBM out of college as a sales rep back in 2007-2009. This was a pretty brutal time to graduate college due to the financial collapse occurring at the time. “My team and I were all laid off in January of 2009 as a cost-cutting measure. I was disappointed because this was a good job. I felt like I was just hitting my stride in the “real world” only to have the rug pulled out from under me in my early 20s. At the same time I knew I wasn’t going to do the corporate thing forever. I viewed the chance to collect unemployment benefits while starting something on my own as a blessing in disguise. “

The Hangover Cure

Anthony started a hangover prevention dietary supplement company called THC The Hangover Cure. Like many entrepreneurs, he started in a spare bedroom in his apartment. Anthony grew it to where he had independent distributors in America, Europe, Asia and even a shopping mall in Kenya. “We had a shout out from Jim Cramer and coverage from outlets like Fox News. My mom had a background in holistic medicine. We developed a formula that I, as a recent college grad, found quite helpful for preventing hangovers. Anyway I sold to a group of investors who ended up sitting on the concept and doing very little with it. In marketing my hangover prevention product I realized the benefits of organic SEO and began learning SEO and taking on clients. I think SEO is an extremely important skill for any entrepreneur to learn. “

In 2015 anthony got into cryptocurrency and became so obsessed with the Ethereum blockchain that he decided to build his own blockchain based dApp / decentralized application on Ethereum. The project is called RotoHive and it’s a fantasy sports hivemind. “RotoHive was a top 50 blockchain based application by user activity in 2018-2019 and I’m proud to say unlike the vast majority of crypto projects we didn’t do an ICO (the project was self-funded) and actually had a working project and real users from all over the world. I shut down the project in 2020 because of COVID and plan to re-launch in 2023. I was also able to get the rights to my THC The Hangover Cure project back and am in the process of re-branding it.”

Blockchain Backlash

Like many people, Anthony probably over-estimated the impact of blockchain technology. “I’m still trying to build the first viral / mainstream app on Ethereum with RotoHive but so far the entire space has produced very little of value relative to the hype and I’m not sure if the ability to pass something (a token, an NFT, whatever) around means that blockchain is the future of the internet. At this point this is not new technology and if you’re passionate about blockchain you need to go out and actually try to build something that normal people want to use. That hasn’t happened yet”.

Relaunching

Anthony shut down RotoHive in 2020 as he wasn’t sure if sports would even be played due to covid. It’s expensive to run fantasy sports tournaments and the risk/reward wasn’t in his favor. He is re-launching in 2023 however. Overall the impact hasn’t been as bad as he anticipated.

“This is probably cliché but anything worth doing takes time. There is no short cut. Don’t be afraid to fail. You learn so much through failure and it allows you to grow as a business person. It’s hilarious to me when I see someone claiming to be a business guru with no real verifiable reason as to why they are a business guru. You don’t just become a master of something by adding a job title to your LinkedIn profile. People who have actually put in the work over a number of years see through BS like that. Try. Fail. Try again. Keep going.”
