Father’s day is a day marked with stuff.  Sometimes it’s a tie, a set of grill tools, or the ever popular world’s greatest dad tee shirt.  I have all of the above.  It takes a few years, but most fathers eventually amass this collection as well.  Along with this list of mementos, your life probably includes a garage full of STUFF, lots of books, and a then there is your schedule.  Not the one for your job, the one that has multiple sporting events, recitals, etc.  Both schedules probably look a lot a like.

Making Room

If you are trying to escape the 9-5, your probably needs to escape some of the 5-9 as well.  In order to move from where you are to where you want to be, you need to make room in your life.  A couple of extra cups of caffeine and a few hours less sleep a week aren’t going to get you where you need to be.  You need more – and today is just the day to start getting it.  So here are a few suggestions to give your family about what you want for Father’s Day:

  • a clean garage, attic, office, etc.
  • a freshly mowed lawn
  • filing of office paperwork
  • a washed car
  • anything that gives you more time in your life

And since this is your one day a year to ask for stuff, go large and ask for this on a regular basis.  If you are going to escape from the 9 to 5, this is going to involve your whole family, so involve them in the escape.   They may not be able to help you build a new company, but they can help you find time to do it.
